“Video games generated $13.9 billion in revenues in 2003, significantly more than the $9.2 billion generated by movie studios.” (http://www.twst.com) Video games can be found almost everywhere and have a very large influence on society. Video games can influence aggressive thinking in players, forms of education, and other types of media.

Firstly, violent video games increase a player’s aggression because of the rewards given to the players for the performance of violent acts, the repetition of the violent acts, and the growing video game industry making games more and more engaging. Violent games are proven to increase aggressive thinking and behavior when the player is rewarded for their violent acts. A study was conducted by Iowa State University consisting of three car-crashing video games. One version with violence being rewarded, another version with violence being punished, and the last was non-violent. The results of this study show that games that reward violent behavior increase aggressive thinking, therefore increasing aggressive behavior. (www.psycology.iastate.edu) This shows that violent video game that reward belligerent acts with points, or bonuses, will increase a players aggressive thinking. Secondly, the repeating of these violent act throughout the game can increase aggressive behavior. For instance, during game play when a certain maneuver or action is required in the game that the player cannot execute after numerous attempts, that violent maneuver will be replayed in his/hers mind until they are successful. This can also cause another form of aggression called frustration. Frustration can be triggered if the point of satisfaction (doing the maneuver) is never reached. Clearly, the repetition of violent maneuvers causes the player to think more aggressively. Lastly, violent video games are highly interactive and engaging, and often give a sense of rush or adrenaline to leave the player with an aggressive, “pumped” attitude. A kill...
