The Vietnam War was a war that we, The United States should not have been in and we should not have started it. We should not have started this war mostly because Vietnam has really done nothing wrong to deserve going into war for. For example, it all began in 1945 in World War II France was under control of Germany and Japan took over Vietnam this went on until 1954 after the war Ho chi Minh and declared the democratic republic of Vietnam. After it was declared France returned to Vietnam. France than defeated Vietnam and after they divided North Vietnam and South Vietnam. There were also plans for reunification following the 1956 election. Also, the United States feared communism in North Vietnam would spread throughout South East Asia. In 1955 the United States supported Ngo Dinh Diem and Ngo Dinh Diem declared the Republic of Vietnam. After this it was cancelled upcoming 1956 reunification elections which led to Diems regime being very unpopular, corrupt, and ruthless. Back in the United States the President, John F. Kennedy Sent U.S. military advisers to train the ARVN which stands for the army of the republic of Viet in 1962 and in 1963 John F. Kennedy Supported coup d’état to overthrow Ngo Dinh Diem. After Kennedy had been assassinated we had a new President named Lyndon B. Johnson. Johnson wanted to keep U.S. involvement minimal in 1964. Another thing he did in 1964 was that he made the United States Navy allegedly attack in the Gulf of Tonkin.
The Vietnam War was caused by many factors that contributed to the warfare in Vietnam during the years of 1959 to 1975. Most factors were the beliefs held by people who wanted to change or to prevent Vietnam becoming an Independent Country. Many people suffered due to these beliefs and policies and that the Vietnam War is now considered as one of the most distressing moments in the 20th Century.
