Euthanasia should remain illegal in this country. I disagree strongly with this statement for reasons I shall give later in this essay. Euthanasia can be described as a form of assisted suicide. These are the different ways that Euthanasia is classed, voluntary euthanasia is conducted with the consent of the patient and are legal in Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and the U.S. states of Oregon and Washington. Non-voluntary euthanasia is conducted where the consent of the patient is absent and is illegal worldwide. Passive euthanasia is when the patient is denied common treatments.
The first reason I agree with voluntary euthanasia is because my father had a friend recently that dived into a pool too shallow for diving on his holiday and ended up a paraplegic. He paid four thousand pounds to get out to Switzerland where euthanasia is legal (controlled death ). The man was miserable as he was a very active person and his treatment was not working for him so he had himself killed by means of voluntary euthanasia. This form of euthanasia is the individual’s choice and therefore it should be legal as they are physically unable to do so.
The second reason I disagree is because the patient may not be able to communicate to ask for this form of mercy to be given to them. Non voluntary euthanasia is another thing entirely in my opinion and I do not agree with it as it is the patient’s life and they must choose whether or not it is to end. Some would say that the patient may not be able to decide or even communicate to share their choice but modern day technology can determine the simple answers of yes and no in other ways. This in my opinion is murder and should be and rightly is, illegal. Some governments around the world have legalized voluntary euthanasia but generally it remains as a criminal homicide. In the Netherlands and Belgium, where euthanasia has been legalized, it still remains homicide although it is not prosecuted and not punishable...
