Walmart Evaluation

Walmart, or Wal-Mart, is a chain of discount department stores. The chains consist of large and small stores that are American public corporation. In terms of revenue, this corporation is the world’s largest public corporation. Aside from the discounted products Walmart has, it is also a grocery retailer. Walmart is actually the largest grocery retailer in the United States. Walmart was founded by Sam Walton in 1962. It was later incorporated on October 31, 1969, and later became a part of the New York Stock Exchange in 1972 as WMT. Walmart also operates in other countries. In Mexico the store is known as Walmex, in UK the store is known as ASDA, and in Japan the store is known as Seiyu (Wikipedia). The list goes on and on. Although Walmart has been known for its outstanding revenue and sales, Walmart has also had some controversy. Walmart has been continually criticized by different community groups, labor unions, women’s rights groups, and more. This was because of their low rates for employee health benefits and insurance, alleged sexism, and more. Despite these controversies Walmart has continually improved and excelled. Overall, Walmart has been thriving and accomplishing firsts in many categories. Throughout all this, Walmart has stayed strong and is still finding creative ways to stay at the top for many years to come.
Just looking at the numbers for 2007 and 2006 it is obvious that this company has done well despite a crumbling economy and gas prices. There was an increase in positive areas in comparison to each year. The economic crisis that is happening in the United States has put the retail industry in a difficult predicament. This is especially because of the rise is gas prices because of the delivery vehicles that these companies used. Profit numbers have increased fairly well in comparison to the previous years profits.
