The website that Learning Team B has chosen for evaluation and recommendations is the Riordan Manufacturing website within the Virtual Organizations. This site is seriously lacking depth as well as information. Our team has decided that we can redesign this website and create a product much better than the one that is presented currently. The first thing we are going to do is develop the criteria that we will use to determine what the site is lacking and what needs to be done to make it a better site. Then, we will analyze three similar website to evaluate competitive websites as well as understand what the current focus is on a plastic manufacturing website as a baseline. Finally, we will use this criteria and analysis to develop a new and improved Riordan Manufacturing website.
The criteria development is the first step when redesigning a website. Learning Team B determined that the criteria could first be broken down into three headings: The First Look, Finding Your Way Around, and The Content. It is important to write down what you see and what you feel you should see when taking your first look at a site. This will give you a good generalization, or baseline, for a format for the site. Team B realized right off the bat that there was no navigation. We feel that navigation is one of the first things that is looked for when opening up a new site. We also noticed that there should be more history about the company. This will allow visitors the knowledge and comfort of knowing the company that they could potentially deal with in business. Team B also felt that any company website should contain a trademark label that would also make the customers feel comfortable with the company. Another comfort that should be provided would be any awards that the company has obtained. Placing this in the homepage could instantly show the visitor that Riordan Manufacturing is an industry leader...
