The conflict that I chose to use between the Native Americans and Federal Government was “Indian Health Crime Amendment passes senate” I found this topic by following the Indian Country website which is listed at the bottom of this page. The passing of the amendment was by the U.S. Senate therefore, it addressed and aim toward injecting $2 billion dollars to strengthen health and also fight crime in the Indian Country.
Also this amendment uses $1 billion dollars to strengthen the law enforcement and make the health care issues much better. Nevertheless, this amendment used $1 billion dollars for water experiments on reservation across the nation. In addition to fining to create and strengthen water project it also authorizes an addition $1 billion dollars, of which $750 million dollars will be withdrawn to improve the Indian public safety, $250 million dollars will be withdrawn to strengthen the budget of the IHS. John Thune was interviewed in the newspaper saying “I’m very please that the senate has recognized the need and has demonstrated a wiliness to address it,” Thune also stated in an interview with Indian Country today.
“This is something we have been working on for a long time, and we hope to continue to elevate some of the issues that are impacting Indian Country”. Afterwards he went on to say “congress recognized the responsibility we have to improve law enforcement, public safety, and health care on our nation’s reservation. We think this is an important first step in addressing issues that folks are facing in the Indian Country, and we hope that it will be easier the future to get congress to move forward on other solution that also address those needs.”
