WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A LEADER OF TOMORROW?
A leader is someone who provides guidance, instruction, direction and leadership to a group of individuals for specified purpose. Leadership has been a requirement of society since the beginning of time while effective leadership is a necessity. Effective leaders improve performance by assuming a level of competence and building upon existing strengths. They show intelligence, honesty and integrity, responsibility, stability, initiative, persistence, accountability, maturity, dependability, enthusiasm, ambition, confidence, flexibility, empathy, sincerity, charisma, and trustworthiness. However, in order to be a leader of tomorrow, there are some requirements that oneself should have.
First of all, they must have vision. A vision is a creative thinking process. Leaders of tomorrow must have insight to where their team is going. They need to have a clear vision of where and what the organization needs to do. However, having a vision doesn’t mean a leader can dream big or daydreaming. They need a good understanding of the potentiality and skills of themselves. Never overestimated your own strengths and potential, be down to earth.
Apart from being visionary, leaders of tomorrow must deliberate role modeling, teaching and coaching. As actions always speak louder than words, leaders should be able to “walking their talk or vision” rather than just having vision alone. The personal example of a practical leader can send a powerful message to the members, particularly if it is ethical and consistent, thus become a motivation to the members to promote development.
With the tremendously development of globalization, leaders will have to face all kinds of trouble and crises. Based on this concept, leaders of tomorrow must have aggressive determination and good judgement. The way leaders react to crises says a lot about the organization’s values, norms and culture.
