What is Justice?
Justice is one of our country’s most controversial problems. Not only is it a problem, but some Americans consider it a broken promise. According to Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary, Justice is defined as “the quality of being just; righteousness, equitableness, or moral rightness.” In this day and age, justice is not being served as it should be in this country.
In my opinion, killing a person is wrong. Taking someone’s life or even taking your own life in completely unjust. First, abortion is one of the cruelest acts one could partake in. Each person, born and unborn, is entitled to the same moral environment as everyone else. Justice is focused on each individual receiving the same rights as everyone else. Well it’s safe to say that life is the biggest and most important right anyone could ever have, right? Not only do I think abortion is unjust, but the Bible also teaches us it is wrong. Genesis 9:6 states that we are made in God's image and therefore our lives are precious and whoever takes the life of another human being, forfeits the right to his own life. Along with preaching against abortion in the bible, the Ten Commandments discourage it as well. The sixth commandment is “You shall not murder.” I understand that some individuals are not Catholic, however, the Ten Commandments doesn’t necessarily deal with all Catholic teachings. Not murdering another human being should be part of everyone’s moral code, Catholic, or non-Catholic. Secondly, the death penalty is also unjust. Yes, the person sentenced with the death penalty committed a very serious and most likely deadly crime. Although that may be true, retaliating with another murder is utterly wrong. The death penalty violates our human rights. Why can’t they just live the rest of their life in prison? That still guarantees that they will commit no future crimes.
