What is Schizophrenia? Many people seem to think that Schizophrenia is simply a disease that people are diagnosed with when they have multiple personalities, and that’s where they are wrong. In fact, Schizophrenia is something that goes a lot deeper and affects the human mind in ways that you could never think was possible. A lot of people that are affected by Schizophrenia live their lives fairly different from those without it.
I became aware of Schizophrenia in my senior year. I have not been personally exposed to the illness but I have researched it and learned about it. I truly found a great interest in Schizophrenia and people whom were diagnosed with it. The thing that interested me most about Schizophrenia is the toll that it takes on the human mind and body and how differently people act towards it. So many people feel as if they’re alone in the world it’s almost as if they need special care when dealing with Schizophrenic characteristics.
Being schizophrenic affects a person in so many ways, physically, mentally, and especially emotionally. Many schizophrenics are characterized by symptoms such as delusions, hallucinations, disorganized thinking and speech, bizarre behavior, and social withdrawal. Many schizophrenics find themselves withdrawing from the ones around them. I feel that this happens because the society around them is so insensitive to their needs and more importantly, their feelings. Schizophrenics, in my opinion, need love and care to feel like they are not alone in this his world. Unfortunately, many do face the world alone and helpless because of the events that could have led to the cause of schizophrenia. It is caused by a variety of factors, some may be biological and others could be the events in their lives left them feeling lonely, depressed, or unloved.
