Topic: Which invention has made the most impact on our lives?

From the beginning of time, man wanted power, they wanted to touch with there hands and have their every command obeyed. Electricity gave them this "power". Electricity has made the most impact on our lives. According to the Oxford Pocket Dictionary, electricity is defined as "a form of energy carried by certain particles of matter".

Electricity and its effects have been observed since ancient times, it was observed that amber had electrostatic properties. When rubbed together the amber attracted small bits of wood. These electromagnetic effects were first examined in the early 17th century, the word "electric" and "electricity" were invented from the Greek words "electron" and "amber". Numerous people had a hand in the production of electricity. Encarta two thousand four edition has information on this topic.

In 1747, Franklin began his electrical experiments. Benjamin Franklin demonstrated his theory with his famous kite experiments. After the kite experiment Franklin invented the lighting rod, and created a theory that, he called the "one-fluid" theory in explanation of the two kinds of electricity, positive and negative. During those times, all kinds of scientist were studying electricity and its effects.Scientist such as Alessandro Volta, Charles Augustine de Coulomb and Luigi Galvani just to name a few. Alessandro Volta was lead to invent the first electric battery, the voltaic pile when he realized that the main factor in Galvani theory was wrong. Galvani hypothesized that a frog leg contain electricity, because when he preformed an experiment by touching the frogs leg with a metal knife it twitched violently. However, Galvani disagreed; he realized that when the steel knife and tin-plate that the frog was lying on combined with moisture created electricity. Sir Joseph Swan and Thomas Edison joint company to produce the first practical filament lamp, which was use after the crude...
