Why Go?
The last time I went to church was not a pleasant experience for me. Walking through the front doors, I am greeted by the Starbucks ladies, yes there is a Starbucks there, and then I take my seat. In the past, I often pretended to be surprised when they wanted me to pay for coffee, saying, “Didn’t Jesus destroy a Church for its practices of making money?” I never received an answer. I then listened to a sermon about making sacrifices to the Lord and giving Him your all. After that, he quoted the Bible about tidings and then passed around a basket asking for our money! To me this seemed like a total guilt trip. I then watched my parents happily put two hundred dollars in like this was the ultimate worship. I was baffled by this act of buying your way into heaven. Modern Christianity has become corporate and has forgotten its original values of loving each other and being happy. Christianity has become corporate because they are allowing big businesses to operate inside their premises. I have been to many churches in my lifetime and have seen a few with coffee stands, sometimes it’s even free. The fact that one of Americas biggest businesses, Starbucks, is in today’s Churches is completely ironic. They run their business purely to make profit and a lot of people getting up early to go to Church are their perfect market. They are smart. The fact that a Church lets such a business inside their doors is considered a sin in my eyes. There is nothing about the religion that talks about it being Ok with making money off of people. In fact, the Bible advises being modest and humble because money quickly associates itself with the natural human greed. Churches have turned into money machines and use people who want to worship their God to make a profit. Another way Churches are corporate is in their ability to make this money and show it off.
