Weighing in…on America
Wake up and smell the pastries people! We have a growing problem in the US right now and it’s our waist line. It’s absolutely alarming to see how quickly our health has declined and pants have grown. Especially when you consider all of the advancements in just about every area you can imagine. We have better medicine and doctors than ever before. We have health stores and gyms in every town. We have immense amounts of knowledge at our finger tips. In other words; we have a truck load of incredibly witty and creative excuses why we can’t beat the bulge. Everyone sits around on their tookuses and blames magazine ads and Hollywood for their beer bellies and big hips. When what’s really going on is we aren’t taking responsibility for our own health and wellbeing. Now don’t get me wrong, I think television and fashion are way off base with their unrealistic images of the human body. Nevertheless, it is up to us as individuals to care for our own bodies and except them for what they are. What I’m talking about here isn’t what size your jeans are or how tall you are. No…what I’m talking about is far more important than any of that superficial imagery that the media crams down our throat. I’m talking about good health and wellbeing.
In a world where we are in a constant battle with our waist lines; we are also saturated with advertisements, movies, and products that work against that. Everything from unrealistic body types, to delicious little, easy to fix, processed foods. No matter where we turn we are faced with the pressures to look flawless and be in immaculate shape. Meanwhile, dollar menus and supersizes are being force fed to us. Consequently, it is easy for anyone to point the finger. We can blame the air brushed photos and delicious ads all we want. The fact still remains; we need to take responsibility for our own bodies and what we put in them. To be quite honest it shouldn’t be about trying to look like a model in an advertisement....
