1. Winston means that it has become part of every citizen’s, living in Oceania, nature to be aware that they are being watched and listened to all the time. The only time they have peace is when it is dark and the telescreens cannot observe what you are doing/saying. Basically Big Brother is always watching you. It has almost become an instinct that you are not yourself, because you always have to take into consideration that someone is watching you.
2. There are four ministries of the government. The ministry of Love is the most frightening to Winston, because it is impossible to get into it. It is very well guarded giving a frightening picture of the ministry. Also this is the ministry that Winston himself is very much against, as he does not agree with the law of the society he lives in.
a. The ministry of Truth where media, entertainment and education is controlled.
b. The ministry of Peace dealing with war.
c. The ministry of Plenty everything that has to do with economy and business.
d. The ministry of Love could be called the ‘judge’ of the society as it is concerned with the law.
3. Gin is an alcoholic beverage. Therefore people can get drunk from drinking it. When the Party members drink the victory gin it can be said that that BB get them drunk with their propaganda. Therefore the BB wins and thus they have achieved victory. The funny thing is that it is a disgusting drink, but anyhow everybody drinks it. People do not feel good when they drink it and it makes you further confused. When you are also in the state of double think it is easier for BB to perceive people.
4. The diary is a crime in Winston’s society as Winston is thinking and reflecting on the society. Also Winston’s diary entries display skeptic feelings about BB.
5. He strongly dislikes her. He is terrified by her, as she makes him feel “a peculiar uneasiness” whenever she is around. He is afraid that she is some sort of...
