Women Suffragists

The movie “Iron Jawed Angels” is one that is based upon women suffragists. The main character, Alice Paul, takes it upon herself to bring together hundreds of women to fight for their right to vote while president Woodrow Wilson was in office. When meeting with him to discuss this right he simply states that he does not know enough about women suffrage in order to plead for them. Alice Paul is determined after this meeting. She does everything in her power to win women’s the vote and in the end women are granted their wish.

About a dozen women were arrested and soon enough so was Alice Paul for doing the same thing. Her strength even was portrayed in jail where she started a food strike. All the women in the congressional union that were in jail by her side did the same. She wrote a note which got passed around to every woman in the jail and lastly to the wife of the Senator. When the Senator came to visit his wife she gave him the note which he published in the newspaper. The day after, the women were released from jail.
