Working in a Support Role

I am currently working in a support role within the Corporate Marketing department at Edge Hill University. By working with and observing key members of the department, I have realised that this is definitely an area in which I would like to pursue a career. I recently assisted the Affinity Officer during graduation and other ceremonies. This gave me great insight into the importance of the work of the Alumni Relations team and how this affects the future of the University. In the past, I have also undertaken work experience in the Press and Public Relations office at Wirral Metropolitan Council. I gained a wealth of knowledge about the type of work involved and thoroughly enjoyed practicing drafting press releases and attending exhibitions. I am soon to start a part-time evening degree and hope that this will increase my knowledge in the fields of Communications, Marketing and Public Relations. On a daily basis, I maintain a series of marketing and enquiries databases, one of which holds the details of over 80,000 enquirers. The management of this data is crucial in monitoring responses to advertising campaigns and keeping up to date with applicant numbers. Having worked with databases of varying complexity in my previous job roles, I find it easy to adapt to new systems and have been commended on my ability to quickly absorb new information. My job often involves high volumes of accurate data input. This requires focus and attention to detail. In our technology focused society, it is essential to possess relevant computing skills. Whilst at school, I undertook an IT ‘Key Skills’ certificate to improve my abilities. This included the Microsoft packages; Word, Excel and Outlook as well as Powerpoint and Publisher. I have subsequently used this software regularly in my employment at Edge Hill University to create spreadsheets and reports, compose letters and communicate through electronic mail.
