Workplace Bullying
A winning business always has a winning plan for success. Generally, businesses create and implement policies and procedures to follow in order to remain on course towards achieving goals and success. Many of a business’ policies and procedures are focused around the people in the business’ employ and mandate how the employees are to conduct themselves while in the workplace. Policies and procedures create job descriptions, employee functions and allowable behaviors to name a few. Regretfully, not all employees manage to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner and bend or break the policies and procedures. One popular and negative behavior in the workplace by some employees is known as bullying. This paper describes some of the negative effects of bullying in the workplace, as well as possible solutions to minimizing or eliminating the bullying.
“Workplace bullying is a pervasive practice by malicious individuals who seek power, control, domination, and subjugation”, said Wiedmer (2011) in the article titled, Workplace Bullying: Costly and Preventable. Individuals are harassed in the workplace by a bully every day. This form of workplace fear-mongering is not a new issue, yet continues to be a point of contention, moral deflation and operation obstruction. Bullies tend to attack those that they feel threatened by. In order to make themselves feel better or superior to those with whom they work, bullies are abusive mentally, verbally and occasionally physically. Bullying is a weak attribute that this particular breed of bad employee displays in order to promote themselves as superior and more capable over employees that are their target victims that they wish to show as weaker and less capable.
