World Religions Report

This report is on the Buddhism religion. It will give information about the religion as well as information about and an individual that was interviewed in relation to the practice of the religion. There will also be a comparison of this religion to another in the way worship is carried out and the differences in what is and isn’t worshipped in each religion.
Buddhism is a religion that has been practiced much longer than Christianity has been practiced. In actuality, Buddhism isn’t a religion in the sense of religions; it is more of a way of life. As it is not one that worships God in the sense that Christianity does. It is more so a “religion” that is directed towards everything in ones presence as well as the world from which we come from. It is a study of the teachings of the founder Siddhartha Gautama Buddha. He lived and taught his teachings in the 5th century B.C. Buddha was a man of wealth who lived in a palace with his father who tried to keep him from discovering the hardships of the people outside his palace. He was able to do this for many years. It is said that Siddhartha was given what is known as the Four Sights that were hidden by his father. They were a “bent old man, a sick person, a dead person, and a monk.” (Fisher, 2005) After seeing these sights for himself firsthand, he decided to begin a journey of enlightenment. Because he was so deeply moved by the sights he saw he realized that there was much that he needed to experience for himself. He renounced all his possessions and said goodbye to his son, who he had named ‘Rahul’. His wife appeared to understand what he needed to do. Siddhartha was actually married when he left the palace to go on his journey to find enlightenment. He tried the current traditional Hindu ways, but eventually did things in a different way.
