WPC or WSC
The World Puzzle Championship was the brainchild Of Will Shortz, who wanted to create an event where puzzlers from different countries could compete on a playing field. Previously, the International Crossword Marathon was the major international competition for puzzle-solving however, it was not a very good basis for comparing puzzle-solving skills across cultures. Shortz created the WPC to overcome these flaws. The first WPC was held in New York in 1992 and each WPC has been held at a different city since then. In addition in 2006 The World Sudoku Championship, which is another organization of World Puzzle Federation has appeared.
In recent years, these two championships have been held at the same week and at the same place therewithal nearly half of the solvers for each competitions are same people. However the results of the championships are clearly different. It has often been argued that, including Sudoku all puzzle types has the same logic therefore to solve them you need the same tricks or practicing methods, but on the contrary all puzzle types has their own tricks or methods to be solved.
On WPC these are nearly a hundred different types of puzzles while there was only Sudoku and Sudoku variants on WSC. Therefore studying skills for these two championships are really different. If you are getting ready for WSC you must practice classic Sudoku everyday to improve your skills and to keep yourself fit on solving Sudoku in addition you must make sure that you are good at the variants. Otherwise if you are preparing for WPC these are so many different puzzles and each of these has lots of variants like Sudoku. To illustrate this a Turkishâ puzzle: Tapa, which has invented in recent years, already has a hundred twenty three variants so to practice any of these puzzles everyday and have a command of all these variants are impossible.
