Children who are troubled and stigmatized because their parents were from conflicting Country’s during times of war.
The term conflict in this perspective means that a foreign Country’s military was either in control of another Country, a foreign Country’s military was occupying another Country, or a even a peacekeeping force—sent by the U.N. for example, was sent in to a foreign Country. Throughout this paper some countries that are involved will include: the United States, Uganda, Germany, Vietnam, Norway, and Denmark. Children who have been born as a result of their parents being from conflicting Country’s in times of war have had difficult lives. Using Freud’s psychoanalytic theory, evidence is presented in a fashion that proves it doesn’t matter what type of relationship existed when the child was born, if the parents were in love, if the mother was a prostitute, if their dad was a soldier, if it was intentional rape, or any other type of exploitation. The children still had a difficult life.
Many did not know their father and this can lead to a whole array of problems according to Freud’s psychoanalytic theory. A quick intro to Freud’s psychoanalytic theory, the structure of the personality involves the Id, the Ego, and the Super Ego. The concept behind the theory is that each of the parts of personality (Id, Ego, Super Ego) fight for control of each other. There is a specific stage according to Freud that involves having a father. The Phallic stage happens when children are from ages three to six. It is called the Oedipus/Electra complex. This stage, if not completed successfully can lead to a variety of psychological problems. Adult problems range from excessive interest in sex, which can vary from assault to rape to prostitution. The steps to Freud’s Phallic stage are as follows: 1) child develops “love feelings for opposite sexed parent 2) child realizes that same sexed parent will get mad if opposite sexed parent directs too much...
