The information I received from the past articles from the modules I’ve read discussed the importance of why we should know the real history of the early settlements of America. Many of our history beginnings have been sugarcoated by the people that obtained a higher power most likely a white person. Many minorities were suffering from these cruel and inhumane events that occurred in the 1800’s and early development of the U.S. Racialization and the Homestead Act of 1862 showed the significance of why we should always be aware of our surroundings. The laws which are enacted because till this day we are still being suppressed by these past current events which helped shape up many American civilians ideological view towards life. Racialization is when you classify a certain social group into a certain category because of the way they look. We understood how the Mexicans, Natives, and blacks were stripped from their rights and lands. We can also begin to lose our rights if we do not take action in our communities and politics. I believe if it happened in the past, they can recreate it by slowly amending our rights such as the 2nd amendment and Fifth Amendment which the government is trying to mend while people are distracted from the truth of this nation. This information made me realize that we need to take more action upon our communities in order to develop a movement to stop inhumane acts such as the war happening in Syria as we speak.
Jordan stated, “One of the harsher laws that resonated with me was the homestead act that was given in 1862. It seems that at the surface of the law it has no harm to anyone, and the significance of the law would outweigh any bad given towards the people who agreed to the act.
