A Breath of Fresh Air

The world in the present is not the way it was before. All the people living on earth can see a very hazy atmosphere. Some of the major factors that causes this is the smoke coming from vehicles, factories, and cigarettes. Even though factories and vehicles emit large amount of smoke, and while cigarette smoking only emits little amount of smoke, there is still a huge population of cigarette smokers. Although smoking is widely spread in the present, the government should do something to address the problem; solutions such as the R.A. 9211, Sin Tax and Cancer ads could help lessen the number of smokers in our country.
According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, smoking refers to inhaling and exhaling the fumes of burning plant material and especially tobacco or smoking tobacco habitually. Cigarette smoking is a very dangerous act, yet smokers often say that it is good and beneficial to them, because it relaxes them and makes them to think calmly. In addition, the World Health Organization (2012) stated that smoking is an issue for non-smokers to be around smokers because the harmful effects of smoking for smokers are the same for a non-smoker who is regularly exposed to the smoke coming from a cigarette. Cigarette smoking does not only affect the smoker’s health, but also the health of a non-smoker and the environment as well. Also, there are many reasons why people start smoking; some of these are depression, peer pressure and stress relief. The first one would be depression, when an individual is feeling depressed, especially when they are going through a lot of hardships, the person starts to do stuff like drinking and smoking until they become addicted to it and eventually, would turn out to be a habit. Peer pressure is also one of the major causes why people start smoking. While there are certainly other influences that can lead a smoker into the habit, peer pressure can be one of the biggest.
