In the book A child called “it”, by Dave Pelzer, there is a boy named David. This nonfiction novel takes place in Daly City, California. The two main characters are David, the child, and his mother. This book was based on Dave Pelzer childhood which was a living nightmare.
Every day when you wake up you don’t think about what you mother is going to do to torture you, but David did. David lived a childhood in fear of his mom because she abused him. The problem in this story is David is getting extremely abused (bruises everywhere, cuts, and is unhealthy). He needs to find ways to survive from each death trap his mother has planned for him. Some things the mom does to him is starves him, burn him, puts poop in his face, and poisons him with cleaning products. The mother was an alcoholic who nearly killed him by doing these dreadful things. David’s way of surviving for awhile was stealing food, keeping his mother away from him as long as he could, and hiding behind his dad, who ended up being no help after awhile. He had no one to turn to but his dreams, which also kept him alive. David dreamed of someone loving him, taking care of him, and calling him son.
There really is no resolution to this story. It ends with his father moving out because he could not tolerate his wife. David does not know how to stop his mom from beating him to the extreme. After they dropped their father’s belongings off, she takes her three sons to McDonald’s and left David in the car. God had completely taken away David’s last hope, which was to run away with his dad. When the family was returning to the car David opens the car door, knowing sooner or later her would be killed. He bowed his head and whispered, “… and may god deliver me form evil.” “Amen.” Later in the book the author talks about that he eventually had a son. And there is another book that will tell the rest of David’s adventure. I can’t wait to see what he is going to do to get away from his living...
