Sulin Chowdhury Eng 1A Mrs. J. Johnson 06/10/08 A Day without TV `Deprivation, emptiness and misery would probably what a day without TV beenlike if one had nothing to do. Luckily, I was one of the few fortunate ones who did this experiment on a day that followed a busy schedule. Still, this experience was very interesting, since it altered how Idid many of my regular activities. I closely examined myself and my environment throughout the day, noting down all the significant details that seemed to be out of place due to the lack of TV.` Choosing what to do on the day of the experiment was a difficult task, since I had to go through a whole day without seeing any media commercials. One thing that I obviously couldn’t do was watch TV. Another thing that seemed risky was going to the theatres, since movie previews are basically ads in a diluted form.I decided I could still do watch a film if I walk in after the previews, so that became my main priority of that day. Along with the movie, I decided I could spend the rest of the day at the Santa Anita mall, lounging in the borders store. `Changes in my Activities were first evident starting in the morning. Usually weekend mornings are when the family takes breakfast together while watching Bengali news. I could only allow the formal to proceed, while going to excessive means to remove the latter. I remember my dad complaining that he needed to hear the news back home, so I bookmarked a few Bengali newspaper websites so he can adapt for the day. My sister didn’t cooperate with the project and tried multiple times turning on the TV. Luckily, I blocked all of her channels the night before, so I temporarily saved myself until my parents could take me to the theatre. Until then, my sister took advantage of my presence by switching to the channels that weren’t unblockedjust for the sake of disturbing my progress.The first thing I learned in that day was that my sister must watch more TV then anyone in my family.
