Gender, is a social and cultural category that is learned and is not biological characteristic. Gender is how social, cultural and psychological traits linked to males and females through particular social contexts. Gender is also described more as masculine or feminine. The functionalism theoretical believed that separate gender roles for men and women are beneficial to societies. When men and women compete for the same role it is disruptive. That is why they should b complement one another by have set roles for men and set roles for women. Conflict theory asserts that in capitalist societies gender in quality is largely explained by women’s unpaid work in the home. Since household labor is unpaid and is seen as a lack of power the homemaker takes on virtually all domestic chores. Men’s economic advantage provides the basis for gender inequality both inside and outside the home. Symbolic Iteractionism is basic on the concept of roles define as masculinity and femininity. Gender roles are structured by sets of scripts one designed for males and the other designed for females. This theory is reinforced when we refer to those of the other sex as opposite sex.

The age and society. Age is defined differently in various cultures. In the US we defined age as how long ago we were born. In other cultures they see age as process of changing roles. From needing someone to care for their every need to advancing to where they are full capable of taking care of them self to finally need care from other again. When I was in Iraq most of the guys I work with did not know how old they were., because their society did not measure age in year. With more and more people living longer the meaning of old changes.
