A Street Car Named Desire

Almost everyone has an idea of how their perfect life is going to be, but very few actually experience this coming true. This is one of the topics in the play A STREET CAR NAMED DESIRE. Blanche constantly tries to live her “perfect life”. She does not end up getting her “perfect life” and instead ends up insane. Blanche wants a life of happiness and innocence but there are certain obstacles that prevent her from achieving the “perfect life”, making her escape in to a world of illusion, and eventually causing her breakdown.
At the beginning of her life she is actually living like she wants to. She still has Belle Reve which gives her an economic situation that reliable and she is married to a perfect gentleman. But it turns out this is just an illusion. Her husband is gay and Belle Reve is slipping through her hands. All the people around her either leave or die. The husband shoots himself, Stella leaves her and all her other relatives start dying. She finds herself left alone and starting to get old. This is when she starts to go in to the illusion that her beauty can save her and get herself a wealthy husband. The only thing stopping her is age. She starts having affairs with young boys, to prove that she is still good looking and young, and hides from bright light to hide her aging.
After getting caught in having sex with a boy she is literary thrown out of town. The only place she can go is to her sister Stella. Because she is embarrassed of what she has become, she puts up a new illusion, the illusion that she has left Belle Reve for a while because of her nerves. In her time at her sister she tries her best to hold up her illusion and waiting for a man to come and rescue her. When she meets Mitch she puts up a new illusion. She realizes that Mitch can be her savior and acts like she is this pure and innocent virgin to make him want her.
