A Survey Report on Bad Eating Habits of Hong Kong Teenagers

Introduction A survey on teenager life style bad eating habits was conducted last month. The purpose of the survey is to study the bad eating habits of teenagers in Hong Kong. Questionnaires were distributed to students of 3S and they were all returned. This report will summarize and discuss the result obtained, draw conclusion and make recommendations. Methodology Data was collected by means of a questionnaire. 37 copies of questionnaires were distributed to 37 classmates of 3S and they were all well received. The questionnaire contains 10 questions and the participants need to tick their choices. The data collected was then analyzed and the following findings were discovered. Findings With reference to the data collected, 81 of the respondents like to eat junk food. The reasons for doing are that the food is yummy, convenient to buy, and of reasonable price. Most of them eat several times a week. The favorite junk food is ice cream, hamburger and chocolate. Although they like to eat junk food, 46 of the respondents do not agree to spend money on buying them. Most of them are willing to eat junk food in their peer groups. About 80 of the respondents think that teenagers nowadays do not have a balance diet. They also admit that eating junk food will not affect their emotion. Conclusion As there are more than 80 of the respondents have a bad habit of eating junk food, it can be concluded that the problem of childhood obesity is quite serious. A recent study by the Chinese University of Hong Kong has claimed that the childhood obesity problem is getting worse, and it has projected that by 2013, every one of four teenagers aged between 6 to 18 would be obese. The results also show that teenagers like to eat junk food especially when they are conducting peer group activities. Recommendations In order to minimize the influence of bad eating habits, measures should be taken to develop the habits of healthy eating and frequent exercising starting from childhood. Schools...
