Journal #2. A Wish after Midnight by; Zetta Elliot. The journal prompt that I will be focusing on is “The main character is…” and “I __________ this book because…” pages read 13- 22 out of 258. As of right now I give this book a 8.5, because I’m intrigued but not to the point where I want to continue reading ever single day. And if your wondering why are the pages read length so short, I’m actually on chapter 7 they are kind of short chapters though.

The main character is very determined to get out of the living condition that she is in; she wants to leave the ghetto and live somewhere amazing. The main character name is Genna. She is 15 years old and dreams of going to college and become a psychiatrist. Genna reminds me of my little cousin, she is 16 years old and her living condition sucks. She is a little girl with dreams to leave the ghetto and go to college and become a entrepreneur. I see a lot of my cousin in Genna. “Mama came in laughing so hard she had tears running down her face. She sat down at the kitchen table and told me about it while I heated up her supper.” Pg.20, My little cousin cooks and cleans for her mom she is the 2nd oldest out of 5 children. As for Genna is the 3rd oldest out of 4 children, and just like Genna’s mom, my little cousins mom told her that she was the best and that she was going to graduate and make something out of herself.
I really like this book because, its something I can relate to one way or another. A Wish after Midnight. From the wording to the cultural its all something I can relate to. Genna’s father moved away from the ghetto back to Panama and so did her grandmother in which she calls her Abuela. They couldn’t handle the living conditions in America. So they left one by one. After her grandmother left things became really hard for her mother, because she didn’t have the extra help around the house. Genna wants people to realive that everyone that’s black aren’t ghetto, and everyone whose ghetto aren’t black....
