Specific Purpose: To inform my audience of the mental disorder known as ADD or ADHD.
Thesis Statement: ADD/ADHD is a mental disorder that many people have that is treatable.

INTRODUCTION

Attention Materials: As a parent you always hope and pray that your children are born healthy. So when my daughter was born I counted all her fingers and toes, checking her from head to toe to make sure everything were “normal”. She hit all her milestones as a toddler. So I was shocked when her Pre-K teacher told me she thought my daughter was ADD.
Thesis Statement: ADD/ADHD is a mental disorder that many people have that is treatable.
Preview: After my daughter was diagnosed with ADD I had to first learn what ADD actually was, then find some facts and stats on ADD, and finally what treatments were available for ADD.
(Transition: The most important thing I had to do was find out what ADD was.)

1) According to the CDC website Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) a.k.a. Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) is the most common childhood disorder and it has to do with the way the brain affects emotion, behavior, and learning.
A. There are three different types of ADD/ADHD, depending on which symptoms are strongest in the individual: Predominantly Inattentive Type, Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Type, and Combined Type.
* There is a total of eighteen symptoms that are separated in two types, inattention (inattentive, distracted, disorganized) and hyperactivity-impulsivity (fidgety, talkative, hyperactive)
