I Am Independent

Republican, Democrat… Independent

I may not have been born a Republican but my situation might as well have decided for me from the moment my mom found out she was pregnant. My father is strictly Democrat yet I have never once known who he was going or even had voted for and for that matter, what his stance was on any subject. My mom one the other side is very Republican and very open about it as well. I do have very strong beliefs and of course my experiences from life have given me those beliefs and I may not where I will stand in the future, but currently, I know exactly where my feet stand. My eyes were shut until now about what party I really agreed with, but now I know.
I am an independent. When it comes to abortion, gay marriages, gun control, and other such issues, I have been labeled as a Democrat. Then my views on taxes swing me into the middle, believing that peoples taxes should be based on income, not the radical “no taxes” belief or the squeamish “Rich shouldn’t have to pay taxes.” Everyone owes, everyone pays. Finally I also have my stead fast Republican views. Who should be hired at all companies in the United States? Everyone. Should there be favorites played with minorities and women? No. I believe that if a job is done well, that person deserves to be hired… Person, person, I didn’t separate that into minute little categories with the ideas that ‘Oh in the past we may have offended the blacks, or Chinese, or women, or Irish Catholics, or whomever.’ This debate affects all of our lives, not just the job world. I think it is downright unfair that as a white middle class male, you are now the minority when going to university, but an Asian girl less qualified than you in GPA and class rank is accepted just because the University has to fill some quotient. I also believe in the closing of our borders, we nearly did it at the turn of the century back around the 1890s to the 1900s and we should do the same here, and I think prayer should not be...
