In this assignment I am going to be offering a study of my selected equity topic looking at three main points which are gender, low income and health linking it to literature, theory and research to back up my arguments. Furthermore I will also be including reflective commentary on my own belief system and values in construction with the topic as well as inserting a fairy tale that is based around my topic title.
It was a bright sunny day in the middle of May. Mrs Penelope was taking her class on a school trip to a play area where there were all sorts of toys for boys and girls. “Girls go play over there and boys go play over there”. Ashton one of the pupils was playing with a doll and as there were no dolls left for Alyssa to play with Mrs Penelope suggested that Ashton give the doll to Alyssa and he go and play with the cars. “But Mrs, I want to play with it” exclaimed Ashton. “Don’t be silly, dolls are for girls” said Mrs Penelope. So off Ashton went and played with the toys that were for boys. An hour later as they were leaving one of the pupils spotted a sweet shop. “Oh Mrs, please can we go in there”. As Mrs Penelope had agreed that they get to buy some sweets only if they had money with them. The only pupil that did not have money was Charlie; he knew that his parents could not afford to give him money to buy unnecessary things.
Equality of opportunity is not the same as everyone else being equivalent. Promoting equality of chance is falsely understood as trying to level everything out. We all realize that different people attain at different levels and develop in diverse ways. It is vital that we recognize that equality of opportunity does not exist in our society...
