5 Types of Essays You Might Write In School
Throughout your life as a student you may be asked to write several different types of Essays. Below are five of the most common ones you may write.
- Comparison Essays - This type of essay takes two things or topics and compares how they are a like and how they are different. An example of this type of essay would be to compare a Mac to a PC.
- Descriptive Essays - This type of essay explains the what, why, where, when, and how of a subject or topic. If your essay was on Apple Computers, it could answer the following questions: What is an Apple Computer? Why was the Apple Computer created? Where was the Apple Computer created? When was the Apple Computer created? How was the Apple Computer created?
- Evaluation Essays - This type of essay describes the value, relevance, and/or the importance of a thing or event. An example of this type of essay would be how Apple Computers has changed how people live.
- Narrative Essays - This type of essay tells a story, by the end of your essay the reads should have learned a lesson or some important piece of information you wanted to convey. An example of a narrative essay would be to tell the story of the struggles that Apple Computers had to go through to get to where it is at today.
- Persuasive or Argumentative Essays - When writing this type of essay you want to pick a position and back it up with evidence. Your evidence can include expert opinions, statistics, and other facts. By the end of our essay, you should have presented enough information to make the reader think like you. An example of a topic for a persuasive essay is, Apple makes the best portable music devices.
