The Blessing and Curses of Technology
Imagine a society where no one thinks for themselves. A society where books are burned and banned. Having a house with not just one flat screen, but three whole walls that are whole flat screen TVs. What if you could die and be brought back to life, thats awesome right? Well how about if firefighters started fires instead of putting them out. What if kids killed each other without there being any consequences? What if a huge mechanical dog could be programmed to kill you? Is it still awesome, or would you wish that technology wasn't so destructive? Well even if it is awesome or not those are some of the things thats my friend, Montag, has to deal with in the book Fahrenheit 451.
Montag is a firefighter who starts fires instead of putting them out. He burns books for a living because books are banned in his world. One day he meets a 17 year-old girl named Clarisse McClellan. She is very talkative and outgoing ,which is unusual in his world because everyone keeps to themselves and are quiet. One night he finds his wife (Mildred) overdosed on sleeping pills and dead on the floor, but then she is brought back to life by a blood exchanging pump! This is absolutely incredible! He starts to realize that he is unhappy with his life so he starts to read books, because he thinks they have the answer. He meets an old English professor named Faber, and hopes that he might have an answer. Montag’s captain, Beatty, starts to become suspicious. Mildred tells Beatty about Montags illegal stash of books in their own house. Beatty makes Montag burn his house down, or threatens to send the killer mechanical hound after him. Montag burns his house down but then turns around and burns Beatty. Beatty is afraid of books, he thinks it will ruin society. He wants to help society by destroying them.
Montag arrives at the location and there he meets Faber and several other ex-professors. Then moments later the city is...
