ACC 260 Week 9 Solving Ethical Dilemmas in the Accounting Profession
While working on this assignment we are required to evaluate the ethic dilemma in this case. Dan is a staff accountant at Baker Greenleaf; we will look at many factors and will evaluate this case. While evaluating we will describe the dilemma, what events led to the dilemma, and a possible solution.
Daniel Potter is an account for a company called Baker Greenleaf which is “one of the Big Eight accounting firms” (Brooks, Para 1, 2007). Dan while preparing to take his CPA exam has been studying the code of ethics for the accountants, and the professional guidelines. Dan made it a point to know about ethical situations that could cause problems. Dan took the guidelines as a tool but it was important that to have good integrity and be professional. Dan believed “every independent auditor was obligated to maintain professional integrity, if what he believed to be the best economic system in the world was to survive” (Brooks, Para 2, 2007).
Baker was getting a new assignment which had been split with an additional Big Eight accounting company (Brooks, 2007). A special audit was being done; Baker believed if the audit went well that they would get the account permanently. The company assigned the best individuals to do the audit, and Dan was on the team set up to do the audit.
