American Imperialism was a way for America to expand and allow products and services to be exchanged with different countries. This allowed America to increase the economical and political capital. Throughout this paper we are going to look at American imperialism in the nineteenth century. American Imperialism was a major factor in the growth of America and the countries that America worked with.
American Imperialism began in the 1890s it was designed to improve the economic growth and over all status of the United States. Imperialism is defined as “the policy of extending a nation's authority by territorial acquisition or by the establishment of economic and political hegemony over other nations or the system, policies, or practices of such a government.” (The Free Dictionary) “By the late nineteenth century became the new age of Imperialism because the technology of arms and the networks of communication, transpiration, and commerce brought the prospect of effective , truly global empires within much closer reach.”(Davidson, 2008)
America implemented the policy of imperialism because they saw the chance to control foreign markets and earn large amounts of money. American businesses and government saw the vast growth, speed and efficiency of Europe and argued to adopt a system similar as Europe. America was excelling in technology, production, and services of goods.
The United States was never isolated from the rest of the world. By trading with different countries made the U.S. an active member. Foreign trade policies were made by the influence of Imperialism.
