AP Biology AP Lab II Analysis
1.What did you observe in this lab?
I observed a notable increase in the amount of hydrogen peroxide that was missing from the solution after the enzyme had been allowed to catalyze the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide into water and hydrogen gas.
2.What was the purpose of this lab?
The purpose of this lab is to illustrate how environmental factors affect the rate of enzyme catalyzed reactions.
3.What reactions did you observe?
I observed the enzyme catalyzing the decomposition reaction of hydrogen peroxide into water and hydrogen gas. I also observed the denaturisation of the enzyme upon the introduction of a vastly different PH substance.
4.What was the independent variable?
The independent variable was the time that the enzyme had to catalyze the decomposition reaction.
5.What was the dependent variable?
The dependent variable was the amount of KMnO4 used to remove the hydrogen peroxide remaining in the substance.
6.Controls?
The controls are the concentration of hydrogen peroxide, the quantity of enzyme, the quantity of water, the material the container was made of, and the quantity of acid used to denature the enzyme.
7.How will you analyze your data?
I will compare and contrast the effectiveness of the enzyme as time goes on in the container.
8.What would you expect?
I would expect the enzyme's effectiveness to drop as the concentration is decreased by it.
