SUMMARY: The case is concerned with the decision-dilemma that Mr. Brijesh Tandon, MD Septra Foods (Pvt.) Ltd. finds himself in. He has to decide the fate of Mr. Ashish Godbole, a young and dynamic employee of the organization who joined it in 1992 as Senior Officer, MIS and was very recently transferred to the edible oil division as Assistant Manager (Sales). However, he proved to be a complete failure at the latter position resulting in Mr. Bhujabal, the marketing manager in the edible oil division had him ousted from the same and he was later transferred back to the MIS section but there too he got into an altercation with Mr. Krishnamurthy, the head of the MIS cell and his former mentor, leading to Mr. Krishnamurthy lodging a formal complaint with Mr. Tandon.

OBJECTIVES: The main objective here is to ensure that Mr. Godbole stays with the organization as he has been here for a long time and is an asset to the organization. Also, the organization’s responsibilities towards employees like Mr. Krishnamurthy and Mr. Bhujabal must also be kept into consideration, and the course of action must be set keeping them in mind.

PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION: The immediate problem here is the reason that has lead to the exhibition of this behaviour by Mr. Godbole, which is not in the interests of the organization and is only hampering a healthy working environment. Mr. Godbole, as evident in his interaction with the case-writer, considers himself to be a man cut out for a marketing job and not someone who would be able to handle a job profile like that offered by the MIS department.
