Throughout life span development, many stages of life impact society in different areas. In the United States, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is the most common emotional, cognitive, and behavioral disorder treated in youth. (Wilens, Biederman and Spencer, 2002). It is the most common referrals in family practice, pediatric, neurology, and child psychiatry clinics. Studies indicate that about five percent of children have ADHD, with boys being a large majority of these; the disorder persists into adult years. When raising children, attention and self control is needed to ensure the child receives the proper nurture. When that care is provided other than the mother there may be no emotion, mental, or financial preparation given to the child like the biological mother will provide. To avoid the child going through these difficulties, most grandparents will step up their role in assisting as guardians to ensure the child’s safety and well being. Grandparents raising grandchildren is more common in today’s culture because mothers are younger and unable to care for the child the way grandparents seeing fit. Culture is the behavior, patterns, and beliefs passed on from generation to generation and grandparents step in to raise the children, which eventually leading the grandparents getting attached. Death is an unfortunate experience that a person can encounter, especially if it is of a loved one.
