In ‘Akua Nuten’ by Yves Theriault, Kakatso tells the white world that balance is essential. Silent hatred has resulted from over domination suppressed on the Natives, causing an imbalance in society, as the two races are unable to coexists. For example, though Kakatso has the knowledge and resources, he refuses to help the four Canadian escapees because of revenge. White supremacy causes a cultural imbalance in society. When the passenger talks to Kakatso, the superior tone and choice of words suggest that he looks down on Kakatso. The woman, feeling he is not worthy, refuses to tell him details of their situation even though she is requesting his help. In addition, the importance in balance between a person’s inner wealth and outer wealth is shown. Money dominates the lives of the white people. When Kakatso refuses the offer of money several times, the man cannot comprehend that it is of no value in the forest. Materialistic possessions they previously owned are worthless. Because the white world is focused on materialistic wealth, money and comfort, they have not developed their inner skills. Being strangers to nature, they could not function even with nature’s riches surrounding them. However, most importantly, balance can never exist without respect for every aspect of one’s surroundings. The white world did not respect nature, only took, without giving back, causing the seemingly endless resources to run out. Since they had no respect for others’ culture and tradition, they were willing, with one press of a button to annihilate the whole race for control. Also they did not have respect for other people that were different from them, causing stereotypes, evident in the twelve year old boy. Generations will have prejudices and ethnocentrisic mindsets, causing the native race to always be affected. Because of the unbalance caused by the white world to society and themselves, the white world’s actions have lead to their own destruction
