Band is an amazing thing to be a part of. There is nothing better than to march out onto a football field and be able to be a part of something. Band teaches you team work, leadership, friendship, and how to pay attention. It is not about blowing air through some horn and calling it good. Band is something you have to work for, it is something you have to earn. Not only can it teach you things but it can help you out in the long run, like help you get a scholarship for college. Band is a great thing to be in and it helps you out in so many ways.
Band teaches you teamwork because if you don't work together then you won't look or sound good at all. Lets say for instance your favorite football team, they have a marching band right? Well when you watch then they are never out of step, always play together, and have a good rhythm. They never miss a beat. That takes a lot of hard work and dedication. If you don't put your all into making it work you won't get anything in return.
It teaches you leadership. Sometimes when your director is focused on one thing he doesn't realize something else may have gone wrong. That's where you pick up slack. Don't try to replace your band director but instead just try to help the situation move along nice and smooth. Someone having trouble learning there part? Take the initiative and help them get it right.
You learn how to be a friend. Band isn't all about working, sometimes you get to have some fun of your own. You make friends in band and they are sure to be stupid and idiotic at times but in the end you wouldn't trade them for anything. It's also fun when you get together and are able to play your instruments and have something you can do that is just yours. Band kids are always said to be the outcasts and the weird kids but in reality they just like to have fun and some know how to do it better than others.
