A referral deals with the act of linking individuals with other individuals or services for a specific need, this is something that is considered required when the main organization is unable to provide full treatment services for the client (Mehr & Kanwischer, 2012). Belinda is an 19-year old young lady who is currently pregnant. She does not have a job, she had no proof of any legal documentation, doesn’t have any financial income, transportation or even medical insurance and she is on the verge of homelessness. A case manager will be able to provide assistance with helping her to obtaining a copy her birth record and social security. Which will valid her proof of citizenship, and allow her to obtain an identification card, so she able to apply for general assistance such as cash, food stamps, and applying for health insurance. So she is able to seek proper medical attention for her prenatal care. Other benefits of consultation services will assist her with educational courses and resources with transportation and government housing. Peer support will give her the confidence, encouragement and the guidance needed to gain the steps of rebuilding her life for herself and her children (Kanwischer, 2012).
In conclusion the benefits of a referral, consultation and peer groups and as well as its process associated with case management is very important. With in case management, the referral process is to connect the client with additional services that will be provided by other organizations.
