Plan.
As part of my assessment for the FETAC level 5 child development component I am required to carry out a skills demonstrations with a group of children. I will be on work placement for 2 weeks in an all girls primary school . I am in a class of 29 girl aged between 4-5 years. As part of my skills demonstration I have chosen to do art. After a lot of research I decided to do clay thumb pots. I chose to do clay thumb pots with the children as art helps children explore, experiment, hand eye co-ordination, and motor skills. Before doing my activity I spoke to the teacher about the activity and to arrange an appropriate time, I told her about the activity I wanted to do and if she thought it would be suitable for the children, I explained to her that I thought it would be a good activity coming up to Christmas as they could use it for a gift at home, I also explained how it would be good for there motor skills and hand eye co-ordination. Before I began the activity I asked the teacher about any health and safety issues she had about the activity I explained to her that I had checked the clay packet for any signs of toxic’s but it was toxic free. The class that I worked with was a class of 29 girls in junior infants aged between 4-5 years old. The classroom had 5 tables in it the green, red , yellow, blue and orange table, it also had a sink to wash there hands after there activity. I planned out the activity and cut the clay into small balls and put them into small plastic bags for each girl. I asked the students to discuss with there table and decide who they were going to give there clay thumb pot to for Christmas. I also asked them to think about what colours and designs they were going to paint there pots. Throughout this activity I took photos of each step.
