Essay Question: Of Goizueta’s core values (Courage, Integrity, Accountability, Rigor, Diversity, Team, Community), which value resonates Most with you and why?

Goizueta’s core values all resonate within me; however, none have contributed more to my success nor defined my professional and personal character to a greater degree than courage. Courage is the prerequisite of Goizueta's core values. Without courage, it would prove difficult to gather up any of the other core values. For instance, we have all made mistakes. Should I have not had the courage to recognize and be accountable for my mistakes, I would not be perceived as a man of integrity. In my professional and personal life I have found that every successful outcome to a situation or experience begins with overcoming certain barriers, namely fear.
My ability to face my fears has played the central role in my greatest professional and personal accomplishments. One such example is when, at age 25; I started my first job after college at Transoceanic Shipping Company managing the supply chain of a unique project for one of our largest customer. As a way to broaden my professional experience, I would cross train on the different responsibilities for this unique account. I coordinated the containerization of the ocean freight shipments and my partner worked on the air freight shipments. My partner, a 10 year international logistics veteran, was out on maternity leave for a month and had only provided mostly conceptual oversight on how to prepare an air freight shipment. The fear of me messing something up ran through my mind constantly.
In preparation, I organized a team of peers to review the air export process, one peer having 25 years in the cargo airline industry. I was also given the opportunity to work on an air freight shipment to Venezuela from another account for some on hands training.
