Myths and Realities of Crime
This paper is going to discuss crimes myths as well as the realities and go into detail about white collar crime and why it almost flies under the radar while street crime is the main focus point. The reality of why this occurs is mainly due to the white collar crimes being committed by well successful individuals who can afford the council to either make it go away or at least lessen the sentence and take it out of the spotlight. The main focus of the media is street crime however if you peel back the layers you will see that white collar crimes kill a lot more than expected and cause millions of dollars in damages and despair.
When asking people in American society to describe a criminal there would most likely be a lot of media involved in their answer. When most people think of a criminal they think of an armed masked robber or the movie gangster in a low rider doing a drive by however there are secret snakes high up in society that pull the strings on larger more mischievous crimes. Street crime is the main attraction because it is always in the media and usually it is violent and gets headlines. However there are other deaths that are related to extortion, racketeering, and many others that powerful wealthy individuals are behind but can afford to either get out of it or at least contain the coverage.

Crime described by society is an offense or violation of the rules that were set by the public and upheld by the law. Each society is different and specific for certain laws on many different levels. When people violate the laws that were set into place they have to be punished and any violation of these laws are considered to be crimes.
