The story of dierdre
A long time ago in ireland lived a man by thr name of malcolm harper. He was a good man with a wife, and a house, and lands of his own., but no family. One day , a soothsayer called malcolm. whence malcolm found out that his visitor could see into the future, an d he implor’d the to foretell what the future held in store for him. The soothsayer paused, went out of the house for a while to collect his thoughts and see the future, and returned to face malcolm. Quoth he,” whence I look into the future I saw that thou shalt doth a daughter who will bring great trouble for many men in ireland. Much blood will be spilt on her account, and three of the country’s bravest heroes will lose their lives because of her.”
A few years later a fine daughter was born to malcolm’s wife, and they called her deirdre. Malcolm and his wife were afraid of the trouble she might bring them, so they decided to search for a foster-mother, who would agree to keep deirdre away from the sight of men.
Whence they found a suitable foster-mother, they went to a far country and raised a mound of earth, and built inside ahouse, which could not be seen from outside. And there deirdre and her foster-mother lived unknown to the world, until the girl was sixteen years of age.
The foster-mother passed on all of her knowledge and wisdom to deirdre. In quite some time, dierdre was able to sew and spin cook, and knew all about the plants and herbs and flowers that grew in the area around their hidden home.
Then one foul night,when the gale was blowing and dark, black clouds blanket’d the sky,a hunter passed the mound whither dierdre lived.he doth lost the scent of his quarry, and found himself far away from his companions.tired and lost, he settl’d down by the sideof the grassy hillock to rest, and soon , with his tiredness and oncoming dark,he fell asleep.as he slept , the hunter dreamt that he had come upon a place whither the fairies lived.it seemed that he could hear...
