As a professional in the field of IT networking, it was recently come to my attention that a company named XYZ Computers has discovered an issue with their computer hardware as well as their buildings design in regards to their hardware storage. This is in specific regard to their servers and water line faculties. XYZ Computers recently had a water line rupture and as a result it flooded several rooms on the first floor, which is where their severs in association to payroll for some odd 10,000 employees resides, and caused extensive water damage which will cause the company to be down until they are repaired or replaced and the times for the employees are recovered. The times are processed on a daily basis so the current employee times are available for everything but the day of the incident. They process their payroll bi-weekly for the hourly waged employees. After this process occurs the data is backed up to tapes which may be housed in the main facility, the director of operations wasn’t that clear on that specific point. As a result of the incident described above and their desire to improve upon their systems I have been contacted to repair, remedy, and rebuild their systems for an improved and long term solution for their problem.
The first thing that will be discussed is the servers and their location. As it currently stands, the servers are located on the first floor of the office building. They are currently set on the floor of their room that is well lit and well ventilated. In my experience anything on the floor is subject to several issues. Pests such as rodents and a variety of bugs are easily capable of accessing these devices and nesting as well as causing overall havoc. The next issue is the one that occurred: flooding.
