Discrimination against women in sports is one of the biggest, least talked about dilemmas of our time. This is a major problem because women aren’t treated equally, and aren’t given the same opportunities as men in sports. Discrimination in sports is also an important issue because women are viewed as the “weaker sex “when in actuality women are just as, if not more, capable than men.
Discrimination against women should be a concern for both men and women because it is a violation of human rights. As Abraham Lincoln said,”Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. “ I am sure that by his statement, Abraham Lincoln would agree today that male and female athletes should be treated equally. Another reason for concern is that discrimination in sports often leads or is a symptom of discrimination in other areas of life. USA Today stated the following; “This dilemma is a major one because nothing is being done about it because nobody really knows about it, but I believe if people did know about this issue they would make stricter rules and regulations or even just eliminate discrimination all together.”
In Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech, I Have A Dream, he stated, “I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit together at the table of brotherhood.”
Although discrimination against women is not a hot topic which is currently being discussed, some sports players and famous people are raising awareness of the problem like these people when they said these strong quotes that willmake discrimination against women in sports a widely known thing and have ways you can fix them.
