Drew Barrymore started her career when she was 11 months old doing a dog food commercial. From then on she kept doing movies like Altered States, and E.T., the Extra- Terrestrial, the film which brought her to fame. In 1984, she received the Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Becoming so famous at such a young age introduced her to the lifestyle of many other actors/actresses. Like many other child stars, Barrymore was attracted the dangerous side of Hollywood, drugs. At the age of 9 she already started smoking and drinking. At age 10 she smoked marijuana, and at age 13 she sniffed cocaine. She was on the road to disaster and was falling out of fame. She continuously went to rehab to straighten up, but it didn’t work. At this stage, it would be the end for many child stars, but not for Barrymore.
Childhood was horrible for Barrymore. She got to caught up in Hollywood fame that it almost brought her to a catastrophe; but that didn’t stop her from her dream. She got back on gear and tried to build herself up to were she was and even high. She hit some major success in her next few movies like, The Wedding Singer, Home Fries, Never Been Kissed, 50 first dates, and more. In 2004 she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Drew Barrymore is one of the few child stars that were able to continue from a famous child star to a famous adult star. Even though she had to go through some difficult obstacle and almost fell out of fame, her dream inspired her to keep going and to make it to the top, which she did.
