Behind every driver there are rules and regulations that have been applied. There are many aspects to driving such as safety, traffic laws and the consequences to breaking them. Being a soldier in the Army makes you responsible for following these regulations, for it does not only set an example for yourself as a good driver but it also shows that you are a part a disciplined force. Driver’s safety can range from several things like having your seat belt on to having awareness to your surroundings. The simplest mistake can lead to a severe tragedy. That is why many different traffic laws are established to prevent disastrous events. A lot of times people tend to go beyond themselves and not follow the law put in place, which leads to consequences. It can be anything from a ticket or fine to death. In most cases it can lead to death. One of the top traumatic events in Alaska today are due to motor vehicle accidents, which are more likely to become fatal and 40% being alcohol related. In 2000, the Alaska legislature set the Blood Alcohol Content level for drivers at .08 and those drivers under 21 at .00. The outcome effect can cost you up to $25,000 in fines with driving under the influence. As a soldier under USARAK it can usually lead to 5 years of driving revocation and an Article 15 recommending UCMJ (Uniformed Code of Military Justice) action to be chaptered. It is always good to think twice before going beyond yourself.
The key thing is to make sure that your vehicle is up to working order. Before driving you can get in the habit of checking the vehicle making sure you have no flat tires, leaks, anything you see that may impair operating.
