Ebay versus Google and Yahoo Gmarket: The Competitive Battle for E-Commerce Supremacy
1) Do u agree with Google and Yahoo that eBay is now vulnerable to their assaults via Google Base and Yahoo gmarket? Why or why not?
Yes, I do agree that eBay is vulnerable to assaults by Google and Yahoo. Both Google and Yahoo have come up with an e-commerce platform to challenge that of eBay.
In eBay auctions, there are no priority systems in place. All vendors are treated the same and no vendor has priority over another. The ranking on eBay’s pages is based on the date the bidding ends or the consumer settings. This could pose to be a problem for vendors selling generic products as they have to compete with other vendors selling the same product for exposure. However, on a search site such as Google and Yahoo, a vendor can determine its ranking through bidding.
Google Base and Yahoo Gmarket also enable people to sell goods and services without paying a listing fee. In Yahoo Gmarket, sellers will be charged a transaction fee only when a sale is effected . Unlike eBay, where vendors will have to pay a listing fee as well as a sales commission.
Google can boast that it's a great information booth outside of the EBay mall that can direct people right to the store. Google accounts for about 27 percent of the nearly 4 billion searches conducted monthly, according to ComScore. It ranks right behind Yahoo. This provided vendors with an effective venur for exposure for their products.
