ECE 214

My knowledge of physical activity, physical fitness, nutrition, and safety for young children has been affected during this class.  I have learned a lot from all three. Children need to have all of these things in their lives to thrive and grow developmentally and physically. I know that physical fitness to help them with their gross and fine motor skills. Nutrition is important, because if they do not have it their development is affected and their energy level is lower. Safety is important because we want children to understand what, where when, and how to do certain things to keep them safe.
The three things I have learned is get to know the child, surroundings, and their family. Another is to educate them on all the different things they need to know to survive and develop in a healthy, safe way. The last one would be observe them, and watch for signs of developmental delays, illness, or possible abuse, whether it is verbal, physical, or emotional.
I have realized that being a teacher is more than the basic reading, writing, and math. It involves paying attention, and teaching them nutrition, and how to stay safe and to interact with each other, as well as adults, other than parents. This will help me be a better teacher knowing that I am a big part of their lives during the school year.
I would like to know more exciting ways, within guidelines, to teach children how to get more involved in health, wellness, and staying active. I know I would suggest games, but would like to learn, and understand more ways. I really learned a lot from this class and have enjoyed ever minute of it.
